Can you imagine working at the same place for 84 FREAKING years...
Let me tell you the story of Walter Orthmann. He's from Brazil and he broke the world record for longest tenure at the same company. He was born on April 19, 1922... and he got a job when he was 15 as many kids did back then... to help the family make ends meet.
Walter was great with German. He spoke it like a champ and so the company he worked for, called ReneauxView, hired him as a shipping assistant. That was January, 1938.
He got promoted, and then, promoted again, and 84 years later, January 6th of this year, the Guinness World Record for the longest career with the same company!
Crazy.
This week, in our iHeartRadio world, the Matty Siegal in Boston announced his retirement from radio after 40 years. I don't know how long he's been with iHeart in our many incarnations prior to mergers and such, but I don't think it's 84 years.
I walked into iHeartRadio in June of 1998 for the first time. I've been here since, but I can't imagine what 84 years is like.
