LladrΓ³, the Spanish brand known for its iconic porcelain creations, turns seventy this
year. This milestone anniversary marks the opening of a new New York City Flagship store in the popular
Meatpacking district, the release of a limited edition Star Wars collectible, and the publication of The
Porcelain Revolution, a unique coffee table book exploring seven decades of porcelain craftsmanship.
The concept store, located at 435 W. 14th Street in the lively Meatpacking District, offers a brand new
retail format based around different vignettes that highlight the companyβs most innovative products:
from the newly introduced lighting collection, to eclectic creations, high end designer collaborations,
home fragrances and household items to even contemporary jewelry. The space is designed by
Valencia-based Carmen Baselga Taller de Proyectos and brings each product section to life within its
arched portals.
Innovative hanging lamps designed by Marcel Wanders are juxtaposed against a more whimsical cactus
inspired table lamp and a wall of fashion forward The Guest sculptures designed by Jaime Hayon and
Paul Smith amongst others. It shows that the company has continuously evolved over the past seven
decades, surrounding itself with some of the biggest names in the design world and putting its original
porcelain twist on some beloved cartoon and novel characters such as The Little Prince, Charlie Brown
and Star Wars.
Part of the 70th anniversary celebration, and timed to May 4th, also known as Star Wars Day, LladrΓ³ will
release an exclusive Darth Vader TM sculpture. The handcrafted porcelain villain will be a limited edition of
just seventy pieces worldwide; available online and through the New York City store. The nearly twenty
inches tall statue finished in matte gold porcelain will retail for $5,800, and is the latest addition to the
LladrΓ³ Star Wars family which includes GroguTM, the lovable character from The latest Mandalorian
release, as well as heroines ReyTM, Ahsoka TanoTM, Queen AmidalaTM, and Princess LeiaTM.
Additionally, LladrΓ³ compiled its most surprising and innovative products in a comprehensive and
sensory coffee table book that showcases the brandβs artisan quality. The Porcelain Revolution underlines
the companyβs experimental innovation which has led to creations that have become benchmarks of
contemporary design.
The book prominently features the iconic The Guest collection. The initial piece created by Jaime Hayon
reflects the designerβs world of fantasy, while its various interpretations by artists of the likes of Paul
Smith, Ricardo Cavolo, Supakitch, Gary Baseman, and Henn Kim amongst others create a dazzling effect
in any interior.
Every page of The Porcelain Revolution contains a playful component. From different textures of paper,
to wearable masks, a sheet with self-adhesive tattoos and room to decorate your own interior; the
reader is encouraged to become yet another creator in the LladrΓ³ universe. The book gives lovers of art
and design a chance to enjoy the brandβs more unexpected side. It can be purchased online on
lladro.com, and in LladrΓ³ boutiques around the world for $105.
βThe launch of this new concept store, which coincides with the brandβs 70th anniversary, responds to our
mission to continue revitalizing porcelain, delving into its most innovative creative possibilities,β says Ana
RodrΓguez, CEO of LladrΓ³. βWith The Porcelain Revolution we invite readers to the unexpected LladrΓ³
universe which is a testament to our boundless creativityβ.
After seven decades, LladrΓ³ continues to transform porcelain, a natural material obtained by mixing
quartz, feldspar, kaolin, and water. What started out in 1953 as a small artisan workshop became a
prestigious international brand. The company has always stayed true to its artisan roots along the way:
each piece is entirely made by hand by sculptors and artisans in Valencia, Spain, its only factory in the
world. Today the brand is present in over 120 countries around the globe with over 260 points of sales in
North America, and its βNew Conceptβ and βLighting by LladrΓ³β collections, have captured the attention of
new customers.
With the buzz surrounding this collectible, there's no doubt that it'll become an instant classic. And, who knows? Maybe one day, it'll be as legendary as the movies themselves. π¬
