If you're traveling soon and use CLEAR to breeze through airport security, I've got a story for you. We all love the convenience of being able to go through airport security swiftly and without hassle. However, based on my recent experience, you might want to rethink that and plan ahead.
Why? Here's the scoop:
Security Breach with CLEAR: Yes, you read that right. CLEAR recently had some security issues which resulted in additional screening procedures for its users. I personally went through these additional checks, and they're definitely not as fast as we're used to.
Random ID Checks: While I was traveling from Baltimore and then leaving Dallas, I was randomly selected for ID checks both times. Just when I thought it was a once-off, it happened again.
Extra Screening for Electronics: Now, if you've traveled with CLEAR and Pre-Check before, you'd know that usually, we don't have to pull out our laptops. They get scanned in the bag and off you go. However, this time, I had to open my bags, get my laptop and iPad swabbed for explosives, and then re-scan the bag. Definitely added some unexpected time!
It's Not Just Me: While initially, I thought maybe it was just bad luck on my end, I noticed other passengers undergoing the ID check as well. So, it's not just an isolated case.
In conclusion, a heads up to all my fellow travelers: if you're planning to hit the airport anytime soon, ensure you've set aside some buffer time. While CLEAR may still provide a 'clear' way through security, it might not be as quick as we're used to. And always better safe than sorry, right?
