Joe Bauer is a Child Life Specialist at Children's National Hospital and his role involves providing developmentally appropriate education, play opportunities, and emotional support to children being treated. Specifically, he works in the outpatient hematology/oncology/BMT clinic to support patients undergoing treatment for cancer, sickle cell disease, and a variety of other conditions. Joe’s daily routine consists of preparing patients for invasive treatments, appropriate distraction during procedures, and promoting normal opportunities for play/self-expression as kids receive chemotherapy infusions or blood products in the outpatient clinic.
