The summer just a little hotter with the announcement that Hall & Oates will hit the road with Tears For Fears for a 29-city North American tour. The trek featuring the power duos, kicks off on May 4th at Tulsa's BOK Center and wraps on July 28th at L.A.'s Staples Center. The tour is slated to criss-cross the country, making stops in Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Miami, New York, Denver, San Antonio, Dallas, St. Paul, Toronto, Denver, Las Vegas, and more. The arena tour will also feature a special acoustic performance by opening act, Allen Stone.

Daryl Hall talked about the summer run in the tour announcement, saying, "I am very excited to be touring with Tears For Fears. Their music has a timeless quality that complements what we do. I think everyone is going to love this show!" John Oates added: "I can't wait to get back out on the road in 2017. Performing with Tears For Fears will be an exciting and musical experience for me and all the fans."

Tears For Fears said, "We're thrilled to be going out on the road with Daryl Hall & John Oates this summer. We've been longtime fans of the band so it'll be fun to reconnect and also to see our fans throughout the U.S."
When we last caught up with Curt Smith, he told us that fans need to understand that Tears For Fears remains a forward moving creative outlet: ["I can only do it if it were worth it. I have no desire to tour just to play old music. I want people to know the new music. I mean, we've been offered enough 'reunion tours' and '80s packages to, y'know, kill me. But we've turned every one down 'cause it's just not what we do."]
Fans who have followed Hall & Oates' live career over the years know all too well, that every year the material seems to take on totally new dimensions from the original hits: ["These songs have morphed so much. I mean, that's what happens. You have a band that knows each other as well as we do (and) things happen on each song. We leave lots of room for improvisation, changing of the arrangements and stuff like that. That's what keeps them interesting to us, too. Otherwise it would be, just going through the motions."]
John Oates will publish his autobiography, Change Of Seasons, on April 4th via St. Martin’s Press.

FAST FACTS

Tears For Fears got its name from John Lennon's famed psychiatrist, Dr. Arthur Janov. The duo zeroed in on the line "tears as a replacement for fears" as found in Janov's 1980 book, Prisoners Of Pain.
They scored back-to-back Number One hits in 1985 with "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" and "Shout."
The third single from their Songs From The Big Chair album, "Head Over Heels," peaked at Number Three.

DID YOU KNOW???

On July 13th, 1985 Tears For Fears was forced to pull out of the Philadelphia Live Aid concert the morning of the show due to two bandmembers two of their backing musicians -- guitarist Andrew Saunders and saxophonist Will Gregory -- quit due to the "expiration of their contract."
George Thorogood & Destroyers took their spot instead.
