With the most romantic day of the year fast approaching, lots of folks are finalizing their plans for Valentine’s Day, and according to a new report, depending on how you judge romance, there are folks in some states that are way more romantic than others.
The mobile shopping app Ibotta looked at wine and chocolate sales to determine the most romantic state in the country, and it seems it’s true what they say – Virginia really is for lovers.
According to the app’s data, Virginia saw a 136% increase in wine purchases in the two weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day last year, with a 138% increase in chocolate sales. Coming in second was North Carolina, with a 125% increase in wine sales and a 136% increase in chocolate purchases.

The app also polled their users to find out their thoughts about Valentine’s Day, and it seems Baby Boomers are the most into it. Overall, 51% of Baby Boomers consider Valentine’s Day “romantic,” while only 37% of Millennials say the same. The truth is most Millennials (45%) and those in Generation Z (51%) consider it “just another day created by card and candy companies.”
