Connie Britton didn't want Rayna James -- her character on Nashville -- to die, but she could see no alternative.
She tells TV Line, "I realized: She would never leave her family. She would never leave her kids. She would never leave Deacon. So there really wasn’t any alternative."
Her character will come back in a flashback in another episode.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Connie has landed a role in the Netflix comic drama The Land of Steady Habits, based on a novel by Ted Thompson.
